The system can be configured for AC, DC, hybrid and fully electric vessel architectures, allowing shipowners to select the level of electrification that best supports their vessel and operating profile.
Producing electrical power
Electrical power can be generated using fixed- or variable-speed generators according to the selected system architecture. Variable-speed generation allows power production to be coordinated more closely with the vessel’s electrical demand.
Managing power flow
WE Drive™ converts and manages electrical power before it is distributed through an AC network, a DC bus or a combination of both. The system directs electricity between propulsion, hotel loads and other onboard consumers.
Connecting sources and consumers
Permanent-magnet propulsion motors, Energy Storage Systems, shore connection and other power sources can operate within the same coordinated system. Energy can be stored, supplied and used according to the vessel’s operating conditions.
Electrification Solutions
Electrical energy can be supplied by fixed- or variable-speed generators, onshore electricity and additional sources such as fuel cells. The appropriate combination depends on the vessel’s architecture and operating profile.
An Energy Storage System can be integrated into the vessel’s power architecture, allowing electrical energy to be stored for later use. While in port, shore connection can supply onboard loads and charge the storage system without running auxiliary engines.
WE Drive™, advanced power electronics and intelligent control integrate the available sources with the vessel’s AC or DC power system. This allows generators, energy storage and external power sources to operate as parts of the same coordinated architecture.
Combining multiple power sources supports hybrid and fully electric vessel configurations while improving flexibility and reliability. It also creates a platform that can accommodate different levels of electrification as the vessel’s requirements develop.
