WE Power is WE Tech’s containerised power-conversion solution for vessel electrification. It provides the essential equipment needed to connect a separately supplied battery, flywheel or fuel-cell system to the vessel’s electrical network.
Drives, controls, a transformer, cooling equipment and internal cabling are integrated into one complete module. By moving this equipment into a tested containerised solution, WE Power reduces the amount of system assembly required onboard and provides a practical route to hybrid power for both newbuild and retrofit projects.
WE Power converts and manages electrical power between an external energy source and the vessel’s electrical system. It provides the conversion and connection equipment required to integrate the selected source with the ship or shore-side electrical network.
WE Power can connect separately supplied battery, flywheel or fuel-cell systems. This energy-source-independent approach allows the vessel owner to select the technology and supplier that best suit the project.
The energy-source container is supplied separately and is not included in the WE Power module.
The integrated scope includes WE Drive modules, a transformer, a 6.6 kV breaker, controls, cooling equipment and internal cabling. Bringing these components together creates a clearly defined power-conversion interface between the external energy source and the vessel.
WE Power is designed for installation on deck or in another suitable container position. This makes it particularly useful for projects where space inside the engine room is limited or where extensive internal modifications would be impractical.
WE Power is delivered as a complete, tested module, allowing much of the equipment integration and system assembly to take place before installation onboard. This creates a more clearly defined installation scope for the vessel and reduces the need to build up the complete power-conversion system inside the engine room.
The container has separate transformer and control compartments. The remaining area is designated as electrical space and is inaccessible during normal operation.
Serviceability has also been considered in the module design. Individual drive modules can be exchanged in place, while access to major components can be arranged by removing the WE Power module when required. The solution is designed and built together with WE Tech’s trusted manufacturing partner.
WE Power
A complete and tested power-conversion module reduces the amount of equipment installation and system assembly required onboard.
Deck installation preserves valuable space inside the engine room and provides an alternative when internal installation space is limited.
The solution can connect separately supplied battery, flywheel or fuel-cell systems, providing flexibility when selecting the energy-storage technology and supplier.
Its modular construction provides a practical route to hybrid power in both new vessel projects and the electrification of existing ships.
Exchangeable drive modules and planned access to major components support maintenance throughout the system’s operating life.
